Term ends: December 31, 2009
I grew up in New Hampshire
and received degrees from Yale, Columbia, and Tufts Universities.
My wife, Inger, and I were married in Norway in 1969. We have three
adult daughters and one grandson. After service in the US Navy and
completion of training in Orthopedic Surgery, I moved to Woodway
with my family in 1976. I worked at Group Health Cooperative for
21 years, and now teach several courses at the University of Washington
Medical School.
I have served on the Woodway
Council since 1998. My focus has been to preserve the forested and
private character of the Town, provide financial discipline in government,
and serve as the only medical professional on several governing
boards responsible for emergency services in our part of Snohomish
County.

My wife Ruth and I moved
to Woodway in 1983 after living in Edmonds the previous 16 years.
We have two sons who both graduated from Woodway High School before
going on to college.
I retired from Morgan Stanley in 2000 after working 34 years as
an investment advisor and branch manager. Currently, I serve as
an arbitrator for the National Association of Security Dealers.
My past activities include serving on the Lutheran Community Services
Board, the Foss Home Board and currently the Hearthstone Board.
I was on the Washington State University Foundation Board where
I chaired the Regents/Foundation Investment Committee which oversaw
the WSU endowment. For Woodway, I have served on the Point Wells
Committee and am currently on the Parks Committee.
Maintaining the character of our town is a personal priority. I
marvel at our good fortune to reside in such a jewel of a community.
With my financial background, the long term fiscal health of Woodway
is of paramount importance to me as a Councilmember and as a resident.

Term ends: December 31, 2009
A Woodway resident since
1982,with a B.S. from U. of Wis., River Falls, and a J.D. from U.
of Wash, I presently serve as: Council Member, Mayor-Pro-Tem, Alternate
member of both the SnoCom Board and the Snohomish County Tomorrow
Committee, Chairman of Lynnwood’s Ethics Board, and member
of the Snohomish County Solid Waste Advisory Committee. I have been
a member of Woodway’s Planning Commission and Woodway’s
Point Wells Study committee.
I served in the Air Force,
as a Securities Exchange Commission Attorney, as Snohomish County
Prosecuting Attorney after serving as the Chief Civil Deputy, and
as South District Court Judge. I was a president of the Washington
State Prosecuting Attorney’s Association and the Snohomish
County Bar Association, and Chairman of the Criminal Justice Committees
for Snohomish County, the Puget Sound Council of Governments, and
the State of Washington. Some of my other activities were helping
to create Northwest Washington Legal Services (a predecessor of
Columbia Legal Services), the Washington State Criminal Justice
Education and Training Committee and its institute, SNOCOM, SNOPAC,
and the Sno-Isle Regional Library. I was chairman of committees
that drafted Washington’s Criminal Insanity Code, Traffic
Infraction Code, and Title 9A Criminal Code; and serving on the
Judicial Council. As prosecutor I represented the Edmonds School
District in its transfer of assets and property to the Edmonds Community
College during the college’s formation.
I also served as the lead
negotiator and attorney for Snohomish County and Paine Field in
Boeing’s leasing of access to and use of the Paine Field.
The lease was one of the critical issues in Boeing’s decision
to build the 747 plant at Everett. The county granted no tax breaks
and Boeing agreed to pay the same proportion of the cost of the
aeronautical functions of the airport, that its number of take offs
and landings of aircraft multiplied by the weight of the aircraft
involved, bears to the total number of take offs and landings times
their weight of the aircraft involved, that occur at the field.
The greatest satisfaction
and pride of my government service is and has been working with
very dedicated people who truly strive to more effectively and fairly
do their jobs and to improve society. Over a score of my deputy
prosecutors have served or are serving as judges at the district,
superior and appellate court levels. One of my interns is now serving
in congress.

I
was born in the Midwest, grew up primarily in Indiana. I went to
Culver Military Academy for four years, graduated, and then went
to Indiana University. My father was a successful businessman, wore
suits every day of his life. I was more into the outdoors and somehow
decided to be a Forester. Not really knowing much about the field,
I headed west. I graduated from University of Idaho with BS in Forestry.
My love of nature, mountains, and adventure called. I have climbed
Mt. McKinley in Alaska, & most of the major peaks locally.
My
career has taken me all over the world. Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and
most of Europe. I worked for a Japanese company for over 15 years,
but I am independent today. I do consulting work and buy occasional
public timber sales. I like my independence and I like what I do.
My wife and I love Woodway. I'm very happy to be on the Town Council.
I'm still learning the ropes and hope to contribute to our community
in a very positive way.
